Practices
The aim of the stud is to create a
breeding program which will preserve and improve the traits of our
uniquely indigenous horse that has become a legendary part of South
Africa’s National Heritage.
At Fijnbosch Nooitgedacht Stud the aim is to maintain the special
qualities of these rare and special animals by breeding them in as natural
surroundings as possible. Unlike many horse studs the horses run in
herds in large paddocks.
Each horse is handled (loved!) everyday. Young horses are selected for
training using a combination of natural horsemanship methods and clicker
training.
Although relatively new the stud just beginning with the first batch
of 2 year olds and the ease with which they learn is astounding. It has
not been necessary to “break them in”. It is simply a matter of gaining
their trust and hopping on!
The vision is to have an indoor arena, (for holding clicker
training seminars and open days), a huge barn with stables for horses that
are competing and a variety of wonderful out-rides and other facilities.
